Awards and sponsorships
Scientific research and striving for improvements in existing therapy options are the foundation for medical advance. We are of the opinion that such work should also be acknowledged. Doctors who dedicate their lives to research should be given support and recognition for successes. For this reason G.L. Pharma GmbH awards prizes at regular intervals for exceptional research achievements of young Austrian research scientists.
Prof. Dr. Herbert Reisner
An outstanding and pioneering milestone of this doyen of neurology, who unfortunately passed away much too young, is the founding of Austria’s first stroke unit at the Rosenhügel Neurological Hospital. But mentioning this and other scientific activities would only partly pay tribute to Herbert Reisner. In spite of his numerous scientific commitments, he was primarily a doctor whose utmost concern was his patients; and he was not only an excellent teacher but also an eternal student. One of his most outstanding qualities was his self-discipline, which remained exemplary right up until his life‘s end. Just a few days before he died – aware of his terminal illness – he had the strength to comfort a cancer patient on his morning rounds, without ever grumbling about his own suffering, reports Prof. Mamoli. So the Herbert Reisner Prize is meant not only as an award for extraordinary scientific research by young researchers, but should also encourage medical and humanitarian behaviour according to the spirit of Herbert Reisner. |

Award ceremony: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christoph Baumgartner, Mag. Thomas Tommasi (Gerot Lannach / G.L. Pharma GmbH), Priv.-Doz. Dr. Markus Rauchenzauner.
